SVKM’S NMIMS, Bangalore Campus organized the International Conference on Economics and Finance (ICEF) 2019 at their Kalkere campus in Bangalore on February 9 and 10. The theme of the conference was “Economics and Finance in the Globalised World: The Dilemmas”. The conference was organized in collaboration with The Indian Econometric Society and was sponsored by CIMA. Dr Madheswaran, Professor at ISEC delivered the keynote address, while Mr Bhaskar Ranjan Das, South Asian Head, CIMA was the guest of honour. The inaugural session was presided on by Dr Vinay Apparaju, Director, SVKM’S NMIMS Bengaluru Campus. Dr Vinay opened the session to throw light on the importance that Geopolitical aspects have in policymaking and how the countries are working towards gaining a strategically advantageous position in the global political and economic scenario. Mr Das emphasized the importance of evolving technology in the area of Finance and how being abreast with the newer technology has become essential to maintain an edge in the labour market. Dr Madeshwaran enthralled the audience by focusing on the importance of methodology that researchers should focus on while conducting their respective studies. Dr Sashi Sivaramkrishna, in the plenary session, provided the heterodox view of the Economics in the globalized world. More than 30 studies were presented in the technical paper and poster format by academicians of national and international repute in the two-day event. The conference provided a forum for researchers to interact, discuss and debate the implications of globalization and the recent reversal to protectionism by the developed economies. The studies critically discussed the implications of the change in policymaking approach from an economic, financial and social perspective. The conference was spearheaded by Dr Aparna A., Associate Professor at SVKM’S NMIMS Bengaluru under the able advice of Dr Vinay Apparaju.
